I've been dreaming of getting these two tattoos for years now, and it feels SURREAL to actually have them on my body now. Shout out to my tattoo artist Jessica Goldstein at Dog Star Tattoo who did them to perfection!
Tattoo #1 -
I LOVE being a native of NC!
Each place that I've lived in this state has shaped me and formed me in ways I am only now beginning to understand, especially the County I grew up in, Bertie. (Shoutout 252!) From the chill mountain culture of Appalachia; to the vibrant ever growing cities of the Piedmont; to the grit and determination that can be found in the people of the Coastal Plains, I feel super grateful and incredibly lucky that I have gotten to call this place home for 30 years and counting...
Tattoo #2
This tattoo is incredibly special and feels holy.
The picture, created by Josiah Wedgwood, was often used as an emblem during the anti-slavery abolitionist movement.
Having this picture on my arm means so much. It is both a reminder of the resilience, fight, and strength that permeates my blood through my ancestors who endured and overcame so much brutality and persecution - as well as a reminder to always join my siblings and fight oppression in any form that it may come whether it be racism, homophobia, misogyny, ableism, etc. May it be.
More to come on this tattoo later. (I Just got it today and am still processing all that it represents.)
