Checkers anyone!? Northwest Chatham Co Adv (Silk Hope & Crutchfield Crossroads)

Crutchfield Crossroads is where my journey's took me next! Who knew a community of just a couple buildings and farms could have such a unique history in Chatham Co/NC History!

Crutchfield Crossroads was named after Jesse A. Crutchfield who owned a general store in the area. His store was the local spot where people from all over the community (and state) would come to play Checkers. The store would host tournaments that would bring 35 - 40 people out to watch and play sometimes!

Local checkers legends like, Elbert Louder who was the 4th ranked player, would make their way to the little general store to get in a game of Checkers!

The building that I think was once the general store is now a landscape supply store.... but you can still get your fresh soda fix in here!

Last in my NW Chatham tour was the community of Silk Hope!

Ah, Silk hope is probably my favorite place in all of Chatham. It boast beautiful rolling hills, mountainous like views, and miles and miles of back country roads perfect for taking in the day on an afternoon drive or bike ride! :) (my preference is the bike ride!)

Silk Hope was once the agricultural center of Chatham - boasting lots of poultry, diary, and swine swine farms. I seriously felt like I couldn't drive more than a few minutes without hitting a new farm.

The community honors its agricultural roots by hosting an event called the "Old Fashioned Farmers Day." It's the longest running event in Chatham and gives attendees a taste of the types of equipment and farming practices that were used in the community for decades! How cool right!?

Seriously, if I didn't live in Pittsboro, the rolling hills of Silk Hope is certainly where I would move and call home!
