Hammock Beach State is is on the land of traditional lands of the Lumbee, Neusiok, and Coree Peoples!
Hammock Beach State Park has been on my bucket list for a while and it did not disappoint!
For those of you unfamiliar, Hammock Beach State Park is a 4 mile long undeveloped barrier island that can only be accessed via boat or ferry. I was really hoping to be able to kayak to the Island, but unfortunately the water was too choppy :(, so I had to take a ferry over instead! Which worked out just fine because it meant I had more time on the beach!
Hammock Beach State Park also has an interesting history as it originally served NC as one of the few State Parks designing for African Americans thanks to the donation of a neurosurgeon from New York named William Sharpe. (Check out more about the history of the park: here.)
With its uncrowded beaches, adventure filled waters, and interesting wildlife, Hammock Beach State Park is definitely a place I plan to come back to!
