Last Hoorah Day 4 on B-Day! (New River, Elk Knob, Grandfather Mountain State Parks!)

Updated: Sep 4, 2021

***New River State Park is on the land of the Yuchi and Cherokee Peoples***

Woke up to a sunrise at Mt. Mitchell State Park on my bday!

I had 3 Parks and 167 miles separating me from reaching my goal of seeing all 41 NC State Parks before my birthday!

The weather was calling for thunderstorms in the afternoon, so I decided to start my journey with New River State Park to get some boating in before the storms rolled in!

When I got to the park, I forgot that "river" meant the water flowed one way which meant I'd need a shuttle! Since I didn't have anyone with me, I had to get creative!

If you've ever traveled with me you know I'm definitely guilty of overpacking.... And this trip was no different - I brought my bike, kayak, disc golf discs, baseballs, and other random equipment for no real purpose! Thankfully, my overpacking turned out to be a good thing this time because having my bike allowed me to be my own shuttle!

I parked my car at the bottom of my route and then biked (all up hill) to my kayak! It was actually so fun and such an adventure to set up my own shuttle! And made the trip all the more satisfying.

The kayak trip on the New River was wonderful! :) There were a few small rapids that were fun to do and honestly just about any time in my kayak is a good time! :)
