Not being able to do Chimney Rock the previous day meant I had 3 parks and 106 miles to travel on Day 3 of my last Hoorah!
My day started bright and early with a morning hike at Gorges State Park. Gorges is known for its magnificent waterfalls and cascades and it certainly didn't disappoint! You know that feeling you get in your gut when you're doing something really really fun! I got that feeling and ore while swimming and playing in the water at Gorges! I definitely recommend Turtleback and Rainbow Falls if you go!
Next, I finally made it to Chimney Rock after getting side track due to the downed power line!
Not gonna lie here, Chimney Rock was a little overwhelming. After hikes mostly alone in the woods, it was a little much to see all the people Chimney Rock attracts and i was a little in my feels about having to pay to get into this state park, BUT people and $ aside, Chimney Rock is definitely worth the visit!
I did the iconic hike to the top of the rock and although I felt the hike in my quads many hours later from all the steps, the views of the lake and mountain at the top were more than worth it! :)
Last but certainly not least on my 3 park 100 mile journey was the highest peak east of the Mississippi, Mt. Mitchell State Park!
I decided to take the Balsam Nature Trail on my way to the observation deck, and I'm glad I did! The trail takes you through a lush forest of gorgeous wildflowers and evergreen trees! Then you get to the observation deck and have a 360 degree view of the highest peak east of the Mississippi!
The view at the top is awe inspiring! And I got lucky enough to catch a sunrise there which felt magical!
