***Elk Knob State Park is on the original land of the Cherokee and Yuchi Peoples***
Next up was Elk Knob State Park!
There was nothing that was going to stop me from reaching my goal to see all 41 parks before my birthday! nothing that is other than RELATIONSHIP!
I mentored a kid for 3 years while I lived in Boone and our relationship quickly grew from mentor/mentee to big brother/lil brother. I love the little guy with all my heart and would do just about anything for him!
So I couldn't pass through Boone without seeing him, but stopping to see him also meant possibly not being able to make it to all 3 parks.... for a second I thought about what I should do, but after a little reflection, I knew what I had to do! I decided to make a detour in my plans to see my little homie!
We hiked at Elk Knob State Park, not too far from where my love of the outdoors began at App State! :) I was super proud of him because the trail is pretty much all uphill but he kept going and even pushed himself to go farther than we had originally planned to go. And the views of the lush green NC mountains were as beautiful as ever! :)
Although hiking with my lil homie put my goal to see all 41 State parks b4 my birthday in jeopardy, I know that when I look back on my life 30 years from now, I won't be too worried about whether or not I went to 41 state parks in one year but will most certainly be thinking about the people in my life I'm lucky enough to journey with and the memories we have together. :)
Always end our hangouts with cookout shake! :)
