***South Mountains State Park is on the Catawaba People's land***
Soooo,
Like I said seemed like everything was just not going my way on this trip - read on to find out what LITERAL road blocks I ran into to try and see my last few NC state parks!
Next up was South Mountain State Park!
I was feeling well rested (and slightly guilty) after sleeping the first night in a hotel and was SO excited to check out South Mountains State park!
The waterfalls here were breathtaking! At moments, I couldn't tell if I was still in NC or in a tropical forest in Hawaii!
Next up, my plan was to go to Chimney Rock State park, which was just a couple hours away before heading south to Gorges State park.
On the way there when i was about 15 minutes away, the ONE road that gets people to Chimney rock was closed :(. And to get to Chimney I'd have to take a 1.5 hr detour :(. At this point, it felt like someone was playing a joke on me.
So instead of going to Chimney rock, I went to Gorges State Park to camp for the night. This meant I'd have to do 3 parks the next day, but I was determined!
