Cont. Gees Grove, Rives Chapel
Magic: to move, change, or create by or as if by magic.
Magic - it happens when you least expect it, when you're just cruising down a random country road, when you pull into a random person's driveway and strike up a conversation, when you pull over to catch the sunset on your favorite road with your favorite beer and one of your new favorite people. :)
My first trip traveling around Chatham County to see all the towns and unincorporated communities felt like I was moving as if by magic. From the beautiful country roads, to the cute small town welcome signs, to the generous souls that call this place home, my first trip exploring the towns and unincorporated communities of Chatham County was full of - magic! :)
I was able to cross off Bear Creek, Bennett (Home of the Flatwoods Festivial), Harpers Crossroads, Hanner Town, Bonlee, Ore Hill, Mt. Vernon, Gees Grove, and Rives Chapel off the list on this trip and even fit in a visit to the Devil's stomping grounds (See Below) and SouthWest District Park!
The highlight of the trip for sure was finding Ore Hill! My friend and I couldn't find Ore Hill anywhere on our map initially and had just about given up on finding it until we came across a sign for Ore Hill in someone's yard! There was a brief moment where I think we were both like "Are we really going to go in their driveway and ask to take a picture of this sign in their yard" and the only answer to that question was "Hell Yes" we are!
Not only did this lovely couple allow us to take a photo by the Ore Hill sign in their yard but they also turned out to be local historians of the area and told us the history of the town of Ore Hill and why you couldn't find it on a map anywhere. They also told us about Chatham County's own Natural Springs just a mile down the road! :) Magic.
Magic happens when you keep your eyes and heart open to the adventure that lies all around.... and take the risk necessary to discover it. Grateful I get to discover magic in a such a special place as Chatham County!
Town of Bon lee
Crossing my 2nd Chatham County Park off the list!
Our new friends!
Chatham County's Own Natural Spring!
Bennett is home to the Flatwoods Festival, which celebrates the town of Bennett! It also boasts one of the largest tractor parades in the state! And is a place that once hosted a race track for amateur drivers!
Devil's Stomping Grounds - Legend has it the Devil comes here to make his evil plans! No sign of him while we were there.
