Haw River State Park is on the land of the Eno, Shakori, Sappony, and Saura Indigenous Peoples Group.
Reidsville is on the land of the Sappony and Saura Indigenous Peoples Group.
Occaneechi State Park is easily one of my favorite hikes in the Triangle! Where else can you find views atop the highest point in Orange County that make you feel like your 3,000 ft above sea level instead of 300?!? :) I highly recommend this hike for anyone in the Triangle!
After you finish your hike, be sure to check out downtown Hillsborough!
Pro Tip: If the main parking lot is full, there's another entrance to the park just around the corner! ;)
Haw River State Park is one of the newest state parks in North Carolina! It hosts about 7 miles of trails and a 9 hole disc golf course! My friend and I loved the wetlands boardwalk that lead to the headwaters of the Haw River.
This adventure ended with a quick trip into Rockingham County to knock off county #19! Rockingham Co. is home of HS FB Powerhouse Reidsville HS. The pride the community has in its football team was palpable as there were multiple Reidsville HS flags throughout downtown Reidsville! We ended our adventure by getting some barbecue from the local favorite spot Short Sugars BBQ! Can't say it was my favorite BBQ but it was good enough that it had people trying to eat off my plate!
